• Wireless Broadband
There is a proposal to install a high-speed wireless ADSL (“broadband”) service into
the area. This service would be centred on the Community Hall from where a signal
would then be transmitted to surrounding properties (potentially up to 15Km away).
The proposed service would typically provide guaranteed 10 Mb/s download and 5Mb/s
upload (although higher speeds are available) without the usual restrictions on usage
or capacity of downloads. This is a considerable improvement on the current 1 to
2 Mb/s provided by BT and would allow users to stream video, watch internet-based
TV, perform large downloads or website hosting, all of which have been impractical
or impossible to-date due to slow line speeds. It is anticipated the service will
support 50+ users and will be on a first-come-first-served basis. Typical costs
for a standard installation are £75 for initial install and setup with a monthly
cost of £19.99 with a 24 month contract. To get further information/to enrol for
this service, contact Ann Groves on 01729-840272 or buy e-mail at tosside@hotmail.co.uk.

• Bailey Lane
There have been plans afoot for some time to upgrade Bailey Lane to a bridlepath.
This is essential in order to allow cyclists to legally gain access to Gisburn Forest
via this Southerly route. As Bailey Lane is currently only a public footpath, bikes
and other vehicles are technically not permitted to use the route. The upgrade process
is currently being led by Lancashire County Council and they assure us that the upgrade
to bridlepath status will take place soon. Responsibility for the much-needed upkeep
of Bailey Lane will then become that of the landowner and/or Lancashire County Council.
Problems caused within the village by parking on the roadside and on Bailey Lane
restricting access to emergency vehicles is hoped to be resolved by new signage and
the development of a new “forest hub” centred on Stephen Park. The car park for
this facility is currently being constructed and it is hoped will alleviate car
parking problems within the village.
• Hall Car Park
The new overflow car park for the Tosside Community Hall is now officially open.
The car park site was purchased and construction funded by the Tosside Community
Link charitable trust and through a number of generous donations. The overflow site
is designed to accommodate parking for 26 additional vehicles over-and-above the
15 places already available at the Hall itself. The new 560 sq metre car parking
site is situated diagonally opposite the entrance to the Community Hall and provides
much-needed additional parking for visitors attending hall events. This now brings
the available parking spaces for events being held at the Community Hall to over
40 places. A small number of our Trustees provided their time, manpower, heavy plant
and project management skills in order to design and construct a car park which is
a real asset - a big thank you to all concerned!
