Attractions

•   Nearby Places to Visit

Situated between the Yorkshire Dales to the East, the Forest of Bowland to the West, Ribble Valley / Pendle Area to the South and the Lake District an hour away to the West, Tosside village is surrounded by picturesque countryside and many interesting places to visit.

•   Elevated Location

Tosside is around 270 metres above sea level and so enjoys elevated views over the surrounding countryside; in particular of both the the Craven and Ribble valleys.  There are excellent views of both Pen-y-Ghent and Pendle Hill - the latter being famous for the tales of the Pendle Witches!

•   Gisburn Forest and Stocks Reservoir

Gisburn Forest, the largest coniferous forest in Lancashire, adjoins the village to the North-West and provides excellent way-marked routes for off-road cycling, walking, horse-riding and generally enjoying the countryside.  For further details and information contact the Forestry Commission on 01229-860010 or at their Gisburn Forest website. Nearby Stocks Reservoir is likely to be of interest to both fly fishermen and ornithologists alike.

•   Pubs and Meals

Two pubs are within easy reach of the village, Dog and Partridge (01729-840668) is to be found within the village and Crowtrees Inn (01729-840591) is a short distance to the East of the village. Good pub-meals are provided at both locations. The Community Hall is normally opened on a Sunday evening for a Community Evening, during which time the bar is open and food is provided.  There is often a quiz provided by Ray Woolston and visitors are always welcome.

•   Walk from Tosside

For those individuals wanting to take a pleasant circular walk covering some nine miles, starting from, and returning to the village of Tosside, click here.  The walk combines a mixture of walking, initially  through the coniferous Gisburn Forest, then out onto elevated moorland with spectacular views of Pendle, Pen-y-Ghent, Ingleborough and the Craven fault.
